Mad-City Ski Camp

ski camp skierAre you looking for an opportunity to gain new water ski skills, make friends, and enjoy life on the water? This could be your chance! Come to the Mad-City Ski Team’s Ski Camp! Certified instructors will offer basic skills, plus more training for all levels and types of water skiing. An inboard ski boat will be used for the camp, along with the team’s water ski equipment. Add experienced instructors and in some cases video instruction to work on every little detail of the trick you are learning. Enjoy a full week of skiing instruction, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm at the Mad-City Ski Team’s Ski Camp.

By Who?

For over 50 years, the Mad-City Ski Team has been performing water ski shows each Sunday evening, all summer long, at Law Park on the shores of Lake Monona. The Mad-City Ski Team not only enjoys entertaining Madison, but is also a highly ranked competitive show ski team, that excels from being a family-oriented ski club that welcomes all ages and ski abilities.

Mad-City Ski Team’s Ski Camp Administrator and Lead Driver is Arne Van Maele. Arne is a Belgian skier who was part of Team Belgium at the World Show Ski Tournament in 2012 and 2014. He excels at almost every water ski discipline and show act thinkable and has years of experience teaching people how to ski and how to instruct advanced tricks.

The Mad-City Ski Team’s Ski Camp is sanctioned by USA Water Ski. At camp each day there will be a USA Water Ski Certified Instructor, Driver and Safety Coordinator.


Mad-City Ski Team’s ski site and docks are located at Law Park, off John Nolan Drive, east of the Monona Terrace, on Lake Monona. [Directions & Map]

The camp will be offered for 4 weeks throughout the summer. The options for the camp are:

  • July 6-10
  • July 20-24
  • July 27-31
  • August 10-14

Each week will be capped at 11 camp participants due to the safety of skiers and maximizing participant’s water time. A minimum of 6 skiers is required for each week’s ski camp. Notification will be as prompt and timely as possible for any scenario.

Daily Schedule?

  • 8.30am – Arrive at ski site
  • 8.45am – Stretching and first set of skiing
  • 12.00am -1:00pm Lunch Break
  • 1:00pm – Start of second ski session
  • 5.00pm – End of the day

When not skiing, there will be a land instructor for ski practice and fun group activities.


In case of threatening weather, we will notify skiers and parents by 7:30 am if we have to cancel any sessions. These days will be re-scheduled for another day when possible.

What to Bring?

  • A positive, can-do attitude!
  • More than one swimsuit, change of clothes, towel(s) and extra clothes on colder days
  • Your own lunch, snacks and beverage(s)
  • And if you prefer, your own skis and/or life jacket

What will be on hand?

  • All the quality, safe, ski equipment you will need
  • A variety of life jackets so we’ll have one that will fit well and will be comfortable for skiing
  • Inboard water ski boat equipped with a boom


A USA Water Ski Safety Coordinator will be on site at all times.  Each Ski Camp Leader will have access to a cell phone and each skier’s medical file will be accessible on site. Emergency contacts will be notified immediately when needed.

Last day of the ski camp

On the last day of the ski camp we will do a water ski exhibition for family and friends at 4:00 pm on Friday.


The cost is $550 per-skier for one week of camp or a family package of $1,000 is available for two skiers to attend the same week.
