Mad-City in the News
This past week saw the Mad-City Ski Team in the newspaper two separate times.
On August 1st long time Mad-City member Jeff Taschwer and his family were featured in a Wisconsin State Journal article that chronicled their involvement with the ski team since 1983.
Article => Doug Moe: Ski team, new guy came a long way
Then on August 7th Mad-City was featured in the 77 Square entertainment section that features a great photo gallery of pictures taken at our August 5th show.
Article => Seen: Mad-City Ski Team
Last year, with one of the GoPro camera’s from Jim’s Photos, Jeff Taschwer took to the sky behind one of the team’s boats and flew high above Lake Monona in his kite. Watch the video from last summer to get an entirely new view of the isthmus.
Back on the Water and Making Video
The Mad-City Ski Team is back on the water celebrating our 50th year of water ski shows in Madison. Mad-City performs ski shows on Sunday nights at 6pm at Law Park on Lake Monona (click link for driving directions and parking info.) And starting on Sunday, June 17, our Junior Team will begin performing ski shows at 5:30pm on Sundays right before the main show. View our online calendar for our full schedule of when we’ll be performing.
And just like last year, we’re putting camera’s on our skiers so our fan’s can see the ski show as we the skiers see the ski show. Take a look at this video from our June 3rd show where Kendra, one of our youngest skiers, does doubles and climbs 4-tiers high in a pyramid.
On the Water at the 2011 Alumni Show
This past Sunday on September 4th, 2011, the 2011 Mad-City Ski Team held an alumni show to welcome back some of our past skiers back onto the water with us.
The team met down at Law Park at 2pm so give the alumni a chance to get back on the water before the show started.
But instead of a photo gallery of the show, we have some footage shot from on the water. And this time, we put in some places we haven’t put the camera before… it’s on the head of a backfooter, a sky skier and several jumpers, plus a few others. You’ll see some aspects of the show from a perspective you’ve never seen before. Enjoy!

On the Water with the Skiers
The picture above shows the view you’re use to seeing. The pyramid on the water, you, the spectator, sitting on the shore. Now many of you have seen the show from the shoreline, but very few of you have seen the show the way the skiers see the show… and that is from on the water.
With access to a GoPro water proof HD video camera, the Mad-City Ski Team is now ready to show you what we see. Our perspective, on skis, on shoulders and right behind the boat. Here are the first couple videos to show you the skiers perspective.
For those that don’t know, Mad-City’s ski site is right in the heart of Madison on the isthmus. We ski our practices and shows at Law Park right next to the Monona Terrace on Lake Monona, so some of the footage in the videos of Madison from the water are pretty impressive.
The first video features footage from the team’s July 10th home show. And during our practices and shows, things don’t always go off as planned…
The second video features footage from a practice on July 14th. With the Wisconsin State Waterski Show Tournament just a week away, we were practicing our entire show. You’ll get to see Madison from the top of a successful 4-high pyramid in this video…
Both videos are in 720p HD, so feel free to bump the quality and make it full screen (or will be soon once YouTube finishes processing them)!

7 Shows in 2 Days – Lots Happening in Madison and Pittsburgh This Weekend
This coming Sunday and Monday will be two of the busiest days in the Mad-City Ski Team’s history. The team will be performing 7 shows over the course of 2 days in 2 different cities that are over 600 miles apart. In addition to the team’s normal Sunday night show at Law Park, the team will be performing in Pittsburgh, PA.
On Friday morning, a contingent of the Mad-City Ski Team will embark on the long road trip to Pittsburgh where they’ll be one of the major attractions at the EQT Three Rivers Regatta at Point State Park right in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh. They’ll be tasked with getting the ski area setup on Saturday morning when the 2nd half of the contingent takes to the road to join them. The team is taking 3 boats, 2 floating docks and an equipment trailer stuffed to the brim with skis, ropes, anchors and other tools of our trade.
The team will be performing 3 shows on Saturday (at 3pm, 6pm and 8pm) and 3 more shows on Sunday (at 3:30pm, 6pm and 8pm) with the backdrop of the Pittsburgh skyline, Heinz Field and PNC Park and a state park filled with spectators and the entire downtown riverfront crowded with even more spectators. With over a 600,000 people expected over the course of the weekend, this will likely be the largest crowd the team will have performed for. Along with the ski team’s performances, the regatta also features the EQT Fireworks Fantasia, Powerboat Championships, Circus Orange, Sandsational, a Bass Fishing Tournament and a Anything That Floats Boat Race.
And as mentioned, in addition to the 6 shows at the Three Rivers Regatta this weekend, the portion of the team not traveling to Pittsburgh will perform our normal Sunday night home at Law Park at 6pm. Since a sizable portion of the team will be on the road, we’ve recruited some special guests to ski with us at our home show to ensure that our loyal Madison fans get an excellent water ski show on the 4th of July weekend.
June 19th Home Show Pictures
Once again, Jim has provided the Mad-City Ski Team with another excellent set of photos from our show on Sunday, June 19th at Law Park.
For more pictures from this and pretty much every Mad-City show for the past several years, be sure to check out Jim’s Photos.
June 12th Home Show Pictures
Here are just a few of the many picture that Jim took of our 3rd show of the year that took place this past Sunday at Law Park.
Thanks to Jim of Jim’s Photos for all of his pictures! Be sure to visit his website for even more pictures of this show and all of our shows.
